How to Check if Your Phone Supports 5G Network

Do you want to know what kind of network connection your smartphone has? Is it 4G or 5G?

Before you start doubting if it supports a 5G network connection or not, wait a moment. Check your network connection since speed is dependent on it. Make sure your phone has at least two bars of signal strength.

The 5G network technology is based on the 4G lite network technology, which means your phone can connect to 2G, 3G, and 4G networks too.

Most of the latest smartphones in 2022 will be compatible with the 5G network. This is because 5G has less latency or delay than other networks, and the awareness of 5g is becoming stronger than ever.

There are a few differences between 4G and 5G networks. The 5G network has greater bandwidth and network capacity and a faster processor over the 4G network. As a result, it can transmit data up to 20 Gbps.

Assuming that your latest speed issue is not because of the signal strength, how will you know if your phone supports the 5G network? Below are some methods you can use to check if the phone supports the new 5G network.

Check if Your iPhone Supports 5G

For those with iPhones, only the latest models connect to the 5G network. None of the previous iPhone models like the iPhone 11 and the other supports 5G because they are built with the Apple A14 Bionic processor.

These iPhone’s Support 5G

  • iPhone 12, 13, 14, &15
  • iPhone 12, 13, 14, & 15 Pro
  • iPhone 12 & 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 &13 Mini

Check if Your Android Supports 5G

Follow the following steps to check if your android smartphone connects to the 5G network.

  1. Open the Settings application on your phone,
  2. Tap on the Network and Internet,
  3. Then it will display Mobile Network and tap it to display a list of network technology under the “Preferred Network Type” option.
  4. → If it supports 5G, it will list as 2G/3G/4G/5G.

You can also use this method to check if your iPhone supports 5G. However, there are other ways you may use to check if your phone is 5G compatible. They include:

Use Cellular connection speed Test Applications.

You may also consider using Cellular speed Test Apps available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. However, before testing its speed, you need to disconnect the Wi-Fi network signal and switch on the phone’s mobile data to check the speed.

Check the Official Device Specifications

To inspect the wireless connectivity on your phone, you need to check the official device specifications. Mostly you will find them printed on the back of your smartphone box or package that came with your phone.

You can also search your phone’s model on Google and see if it supports a 5G connection. However, some websites may not have accurate information about your device specifications. You need to make sure the website is reliable for up-to-date device specifications before you visit them.

Conclusion

The 5G network is the latest and greatest technology on the horizon, but it may not be compatible with all phones. To determine if your phone can access a 5G signal, you need to first check its wireless connectivity specifications or follow some of the methods we’ve outlined above.

In addition, since speed is dependent on connection strength, make sure that you have at least two bars of signal before testing out speeds.
